The efficiency of the new version of the system comes from a unique nozzle system that accelerates water flow into the propeller and increases propulsion. At the same time, the propeller was redesigned to reduce water resistance.
Since its first shipment 25 years ago, the ABB Azipod propulsion system has operated more than 12 million hours, saving more than 700,000 tons of fuel.
As a standard in the marine industry, the Azipod propulsion system is a gearless steering propulsion system that uses an electric drive motor located on the outside of the hull and can be operated in 360 degrees for a variety of ship types.
