Barn fire in Mettawa, 1-9-18

On Monday afternoon, January 9, 2018, firefighters from Libertyville and surrounding areas responded to a barn fire at 14060 Old School Road in Mettawa. The first unit on the scene was Countryside Chief 4100, who confirmed a working fire. Fire companies quickly connected to a hydrant across the street, successfully protecting nearby structures. Unfortunately, the four-stall barn was completely destroyed. While the horses managed to escape, some smaller animals did not survive the blaze. The alarm was later upgraded to a Box Alarm for additional resources, and the full box assignment was completed shortly after. The response included two engine companies, a quint, an ambulance, and a battalion chief from Libertyville. Additional units came from Countryside, Knollwood, Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, Gurnee, and Wauconda. A Lincolnshire-Riverwoods squad also arrived, along with chiefs from Countryside, Lake Forest, Mundelein, and Libertyville. The coordinated effort showcased the strength of the regional fire response system.
