Research team experiments confirmed that the laser changes asteroid orbit feasible

Scientists have warned from time to time the danger of an asteroid impact on Earth, and many scientists are working hard to study how to avert this catastrophe. The research team at the University of California, Santa Barbara conceived that as the asteroid would endanger the Earth, the high-energy laser would shoot the asteroid and disperse it or change its direction of operation. The team recently tested in the laboratory and confirmed that the idea feasible.

In the laboratory, the research team rotated a basaltic rock similar in structure to that of an asteroid, and then shot the rock with a laser to heat the rock and begin to lose mass, eventually causing some of the rock to evaporate, The driving force of its trajectory, thus changing its direction of rotation.

There are two ways in which the team can work out the idea. One is to build a large laser launch system called De-Star on the Earth, which emits laser light from the Earth to the asteroid. The other is to build a "De-Starlite" Small, unmanned laser launch system that allows it to run in space and launch lasers to change its trajectory when it encounters asteroids that could endanger Earth.
