The float valve sub is an essential tool in petroleum exploration and drilling engineering. It is typically installed at the top of the drill bit, with the float valve assembly near the bit connection thread. It can also be placed at critical positions along the drill string. Its primary function is to prevent mud from entering the drill pipe when connecting a single piece of pipe, avoid mud return, and stop the wellbore from clogging. In case of a blowout, the valve automatically closes, preventing blowout within the drill string.
There are two main types of float valves:
- **Model "F" – Plunger Type**
- **Model "G" – Flapper Type**
