Barn fire in Mettawa, 1-9-18

On Monday afternoon, January 9, 2018, firefighters from Libertyville and neighboring departments responded to a barn fire at 14060 Old School Road in Mettawa. Countryside Chief 4100 was the first to arrive and confirmed that it was a working fire. Fire companies connected to a hydrant across the street and managed to protect nearby structures, but the barn was completely destroyed. The barn reportedly had four stalls, and all the horses escaped safely, though some smaller animals did not survive the blaze. The incident was upgraded to a Box Alarm for additional resources, and the full box assignment was later completed. The scene saw a significant response, with two engines, a quint, an ambulance, and a battalion chief from Libertyville on the scene. Additional units came from Countryside, Knollwood, Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, Gurnee, and Wauconda, along with a Lincolnshire-Riverwoods squad. Chiefs from Countryside, Lake Forest, Mundelein, and Libertyville also arrived to manage the operation. Several photos captured the efforts of the firefighters, including images of them operating hose lines, breaking down doors, and responding to the emergency. Notable among the photos were shots of Countryside FPD Chief Jeff Steingart and various fire engines from different departments. Additional images can be viewed on Shapirophotography.net.
