Buffalo Grove police and firefighters responded to a house fire at 25 Dellmont Court on August 26, 2020. Upon arrival, first responders observed flames coming from the roof vent of a two-story single-family home. The incident was initially classified as a working fire and later escalated to a Code 4. Additional resources were requested through the MABAS Box Alarm system. Firefighters advanced multiple lines into the structure but faced challenges accessing the attic due to the rapid spread of the fire.
As the fire intensified, it self-vented through the rear of the house, sending thick smoke and flames into the air. A defensive attack was initiated using an exterior line to reduce the heat and allow for a second interior attempt. Due to the extreme temperatures and ongoing danger, the alarm was upgraded to a second alarm, bringing in more personnel to manage the situation safely.
Two firefighters were treated for heat-related injuries and transported from the scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Several local fire departments provided mutual aid, including units from Long Grove, Prospect Heights, Wheeling, Palatine, Countryside, Libertyville Lake Forest, Grayslake, Highland Park, Schaumburg, Mount Prospect, Deerfield, Northbrook, Lake Villa, Lake Zurich, Hoffman Estates, and Winnetka. Buffalo Grove Engine 26 and Long Grove Tanker 55 were positioned on hydrants to support the operation.
Photos from the scene show the intensity of the fire, with firefighters actively working to contain the blaze. Multiple images capture the efforts of emergency responders, including fire engines, hose lines, and a quint unit stationed at the location. The community has been reminded of the dangers of residential fires and the importance of quick response times.
