Hey everyone,
I just got this message from Andy Russell about an incident involving the Peotone Squad 14. Apparently, they were responding to an accident scene on I-57 over the weekend when another vehicle slammed into them. It happened on the officer's side at the rear corner of the squad, causing some pretty serious damage. Because of that, the vehicle is now out of commission for several weeks while repairs are done.
It’s always so important to remember to slow down and move over when you see emergency or maintenance vehicles on the road. These situations remind us why those laws exist—to keep our first responders safe. It’s not just about protecting the firefighters, but also making sure everyone gets home safely.
Here are some photos taken by Peotone Fire Chief Bill Schreiber showing the aftermath. You can really see how much damage was done. Hopefully, this serves as a wake-up call for drivers to be more cautious around emergency scenes.
