Working fire in Cicero, 1-27-16

This message is from Josh Boyajian:
Cicero had a significant fire at 5346 W 23rd Place on Wednesday morning. When Engine 7 arrived, they found a one-and-a-half story wood-frame structure with heavy fire showing on the first floor. The responding companies launched an aggressive attack and pushed up to the second floor, where fire was hidden in the attic and knee walls. Engine 2 deployed three lines, while Truck 1 and 2 had their main lines in place. Here are some photos taken about 10 minutes into the incident.
These images give a real sense of the intensity of the fire and the quick response by the firefighters. It's clear that the crews worked hard under challenging conditions to contain the blaze. Thanks to Josh for sharing these great shots.

Gasoline Piston Ring

The piston rings in an internal combustion engine play a crucial role in maintaining a proper seal between the piston and the cylinder wall. These rings are typically made of cast iron or steel and are designed to fit tightly against the cylinder walls.

Firstly, the top ring, also known as the compression ring, is responsible for sealing the combustion chamber. It prevents the escape of gases from the combustion process and ensures maximum pressure is exerted on the piston. This ring is subjected to high temperatures and pressures, so it must be able to withstand extreme conditions.

Secondly, the second ring, or the oil control ring, is responsible for regulating the amount of oil that enters the combustion chamber. It prevents excessive oil consumption and helps maintain the proper lubrication of the cylinder wall. This ring is designed to scrape off excess oil from the cylinder wall and return it to the oil pan.

Thirdly, the oil scraper ring, also known as the third ring, is responsible for removing excess oil from the cylinder wall. It prevents oil from entering the combustion chamber and ensures that the piston rings remain properly lubricated. This ring is designed to scrape off any oil that may have passed the second ring.

Lastly, these piston rings are designed to maintain a proper balance between sealing the combustion chamber and allowing for the necessary lubrication. They must be able to expand and contract with the changing temperatures and pressures inside the engine. Proper installation and maintenance of these rings are essential for the efficient operation of the engine and to prevent any loss of power or excessive oil consumption.
