Hey everyone,
This is Larry Shapiro sending you an update from the scene. Earlier today, around mid-morning on June 7th, 2015, the Buffalo Grove Fire Department responded to a call on McHenry Road near the entrance to The Grove shopping center, just north of Lake-Cook Road. It was a two-car accident involving significant damage— one of the vehicles was completely on its side.
When Battalion 4 arrived, they found two SUVs tangled up in the collision. One of the vehicles had partially fallen over an embankment into a drainage culvert. Fortunately, the two people inside the SUV in the street declined medical attention, but the other two occupants were trapped and required immediate extraction efforts.
The first responders quickly got to work stabilizing the vehicle using rescue jacks, securing it with ropes attached to the fire truck. Then they began working diligently on both sides of the car to carefully free the trapped individuals. It was quite a challenging situation, but the team worked efficiently under pressure.
I managed to capture some images from the scene. Here’s what it looked like as the rescue unfolded. Unfortunately, I don’t have the final version of the video yet, but I'll post it soon once it's ready.
