Recently, Caterpillar announced that the "Dr. Hank Kaplan" tugboat has already held a naming ceremony. It is reported that this is the first ship in North America to use a complete Cat marine propulsion system, including Cat engines and electric and Cat azimuth drives.
It is reported that the owner of the tugboat is Harley Marine Services of the United States, which is 80 feet long, 36 feet wide and 13.7 feet draught. The ship is equipped with two 3516C marine diesel propulsion engines, with a single output of 2,675 hp (1995 kW). Each diesel engine drives two MTA 524-T azimuth thrusters, specially designed for high performance applications.
This new upgraded Cat MTA 524-T azimuth thruster is the latest iteration of Cat thruster products, optimized for tugboat operations, standard-based MTA design, for maximum bollard pull, simplifying installation and Maintenance improves operability.
Cat US distributor Peterson Power will be responsible for the project, helping to improve the specifications and supporting the installation and service of each system. Cat Finance also provides regular financing for the construction of the vessel.
