According to preliminary data from the province's automotive industry, the average price of 25 models dropped each month during the first quarter of this year. Most of the models that saw price reductions were priced at or below 150,000 yuan. The statistics reveal that nearly 80 models across more than 20 brands underwent price cuts in the first three months. This number is comparable to the total number of vehicle models that experienced price reductions in 2003. Overall, domestic car prices fell by over 2%. Among the 120 models available in 2003, two-thirds had their prices adjusted, with an average reduction of more than 8%. The lower the model’s price, the greater the discount tended to be.
In addition, an analysis of 150 imported vehicles in the first quarter showed that the number of imported cars exceeded that of domestic models by more than 4.3%. Compared to the same period last year, the overall price of imported vehicles dropped by over 5%. Even Toyota's iconic Camry, known for its high-end image, recently reduced its price by nearly 100,000 yuan. However, not all segments followed this trend. For instance, the Honda CR-V faced a different situation, as some low-end imported SUVs saw price increases of up to 50%, while high-end imported SUVs experienced sharp declines.
Experts suggest that the price drops for imported cars are largely due to increasing competition from domestic brands in the premium market. Import license restrictions have minimal impact on these vehicles. As the market evolves, the influence of import licenses on car pricing is expected to decrease further.
