ZF produces commercial vehicle gearboxes in China

On June 26th, ZF Group, a renowned global automotive supplier and one of the world's top 500 companies, officially broke ground on ZF Drive Technology (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd. This marks the company’s 17th subsidiary in China, signaling its continued commitment to the Chinese market. ZF (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the German ZF Group, established in 2005 with a total investment of $19.26 million and registered capital of $7.71 million. The company specializes in manufacturing and selling self-operated manual gearboxes for commercial vehicles and related components. With an annual production capacity of 35,000 heavy-duty commercial vehicle gearboxes, it serves major Chinese automakers. By 2010, the company aimed to secure a significant position in the domestic market. Wolfgang Vogel, Executive Vice President of ZF Group’s Commercial Vehicles and Special Drive Systems division, emphasized that the rapid growth of China’s commercial vehicle market has been accompanied by sustained demand for transmission solutions. He noted that 12-speed and 16-speed synchronized gearboxes are becoming increasingly popular among automakers. “We will bring our most advanced technologies to China and develop ZF (Hangzhou) into a leading player in the region,” he said. Vogel added that localization is key to winning customers and capturing market share. Joachim Holzner, general manager of ZF (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd., also announced plans to expand production to include gearboxes for light commercial vehicles in the near future. ZF Transmission Technology (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd. is backed by the ZF Group, a global leader in automotive transmission and chassis technology since its founding in 1915. The company provides a wide range of products, including transmissions, operating systems, chassis components, and bearing systems. With 125 facilities across 26 countries and nearly 54,500 employees worldwide, ZF Group generated sales of €10.8 billion in 2005, ranking third among German auto parts suppliers and 15th globally.
