The Richmond FPD station was designed in an 'L-shape' with the apparatus bays around the back of the building. Larry Shapiro photo The department is led by a full-time chief and staffed by 40 part-time firefighters who are dedicated to serving their community. They operate two fire engines, a ladder truck, a tanker, two ambulances, a brush unit, two AWD ATVs, and a pickup truck that serves dual purposes as a chase vehicle for medical calls and a take-home vehicle for the night shift commanders. In addition, they proudly maintain two vintage fire engines that add historical value to their fleet. Several years ago, the department acquired a 1984 E-One 110-foot rear-mount aerial from Franklin Park. This early custom cab/chassis model featured a square-style cab and was later updated with new emergency lighting, a white roof, and various other improvements before being put into service. The unit remains a key part of their fleet. One of Richmond’s fire engines, built in 1999 by US Tank, features an enclosed top-mount pump panel. It has a twin unit stationed in the neighboring town of Spring Grove. Both engines are equipped with the HME 1871 Super Command cab, offering modern comfort and functionality for the crews. This department operates within Division 5, covering approximately 28 square miles from a single fire station that houses a full array of equipment. What makes the station unique is its L-shaped design, with all apparatus bays located at the rear of the building, giving it a distinctive layout compared to many other stations.
