As I sit here reflecting on the tragic fire that engulfed a property in Cicero back on August 1, 2014, I can’t help but revisit the haunting images captured by Gordon J. Nord, Jr., and the vivid radio traffic shared by Steve Redick. The destruction left in its wake is something no community should have to endure, and these visuals serve as a stark reminder of the dangers firefighters face every day.
I’ve embedded some audio clips below that provide insight into the chaos and urgency of the situation. Unfortunately, due to technical limitations, the audio file isn’t playing correctly in all browsers, particularly older versions of Internet Explorer. For those who can hear it, the raw emotion and communication between dispatchers and responders are both harrowing and inspiring.
In addition to the audio, I wanted to share some powerful images taken by Gordon J. Nord, Jr., which capture the intensity of the firefighting efforts. These photos show the E-ONE tower ladders in action under the cover of darkness, illuminating the scene with their bright lights. Each photograph tells its own story about resilience and teamwork.

The bravery displayed by everyone involved is nothing short of remarkable. While I can’t fully articulate the gravity of the situation, these visuals do an excellent job of capturing the scope of the disaster. It’s humbling to see how quickly emergency services mobilized and worked together to mitigate the damage.
If you have any additional information or personal stories related to this incident, I’d love to hear them. Sharing experiences helps us better understand the impact such events have on our communities.
