Chicago 2-11 Alarm fire & EMS Plan I at the John Hancock Building, 11-21-15

I just witnessed something incredible this Saturday afternoon on November 21, 2015. There was a fire alarm going off at the 2-11 level of the John Hancock Building, located at 175 E. Delaware Place. It was quite a scene as the Chicago Fire Department and EMS teams sprang into action. I managed to snap some photos during the chaos. The first image shows firefighters in full gear after managing part of the blaze. You can see their determination etched across their faces, despite the exhaustion that must have set in after such an intense situation. Another shot captures the dramatic flames bursting out of one of the windows on a higher floor of the iconic building. It’s a sight that really highlights the power of fire and how quickly it can spread in a high-rise setting. There’s also a picture of the bustling lobby, which had transformed into a command post. People were moving around with purpose, radios crackling as they coordinated efforts to contain the fire. It’s fascinating to see how organized everything becomes even amidst the urgency of the moment. The final image gives you a closer look at the firefighters who were working tirelessly. Their focus is evident, and you can almost feel the adrenaline coursing through them as they dealt with the aftermath. These photos truly capture the bravery and dedication of those who put themselves in harm's way to protect others. All these images were taken by Tim Olk, who was there to document this unforgettable event. It’s moments like these that remind us of the importance of having skilled professionals ready to respond to emergencies, no matter the time or place.
