Illinois LODD – Hudson FF killed and 5 injured

Six members of the Hudson fire department from western McLean County sustained injuries, one tragically losing their life, while responding to an accident on a snow-covered stretch of the interstate near Hudson on Tuesday evening. There are several reports available on this incident. From Pantagraph.com, here's what they shared: "The 39-year-old volunteer firefighter for the Hudson Community Fire Protection District, who tragically lost his life at the scene of a multi-vehicle collision near Hudson on Tuesday night, has been identified as Chris Brown. Preliminary investigations suggest that he succumbed to multiple blunt force injuries—specifically to his head, chest, and pelvis—after being struck by a semi-truck tractor trailer," stated Coroner Beth Kimmerling in a press release. "Today, we mourn the loss of a beloved member of our Hudson family," expressed Hudson Fire Chief Dan Hite. "Our hearts go out to his family during this difficult time, and we honor the significant contributions he made to our community and the lasting impact he had on the Hudson Fire Department. As a tight-knit unit, the loss of any one of our members deeply affects us all. While such tragedies weigh heavily on everyone involved, we stand united in supporting each other through these trying times. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family." Chris Brown, who also served as a full-time firefighter for the Bloomington Fire Department, leaves behind a wife and two young sons. Meanwhile, The News-Gazette provided additional details: "Six members of the Hudson fire department from western McLean County were injured, one fatally, while managing a car pile-up on Interstate 39 near Hudson around 9:45 PM on Tuesday. According to a joint statement issued by McLean County Coroner Beth Kimmerling and the Hudson Community Fire Protection District, a southbound semi-truck hauling vehicles lost control and collided with three emergency vehicles from both the Hudson fire department and the Illinois State Police. Coroner Kimmerling confirmed that 39-year-old Christopher R. Brown of Hudson was killed in the accident. His family mourns his untimely passing; he was a devoted husband and father to two children. The identities of the injured firefighters remain undisclosed at this moment." Thank you for sharing this story, Chris. It's heartbreaking to hear about such incidents, especially when dedicated first responders put their lives on the line for others. Let's hope for a swift recovery for those still recovering and support the families affected by this tragedy. I’ve been reflecting on how important it is to appreciate the hardworking men and women who risk their lives daily to keep us safe. Whether it’s firefighters or paramedics, these individuals deserve recognition and gratitude.
