I just came across this listing on govdeals.com about a 2005 International 4300 ambulance that’s currently up for grabs. It's being sold by the Zion Fire Department, and it looks like a solid option if you're in the market for an older but well-maintained vehicle.
Here’s what caught my eye: the truck is powered by a 7.6L inline-six diesel engine, which is known for its reliability. The seller mentions that regular maintenance has been performed every 120-150 days, so it seems like the previous owners took good care of it. For the past four years, it served as a reserve unit, and while it hasn’t been actively used for the last four months, it still appears to be in decent condition.
One thing to note is that all city lettering will be removed before the sale, and the emergency lighting is fully functional. However, all the rescue equipment has already been taken out, which makes sense since it’s no longer in active service. Interestingly, the Stryker power load floor plate is included, though it isn't currently operational. The exterior shows some normal wear and tear for its age, especially given where it’s been stationed, but nothing too concerning. Mechanically, the rear air ride system with automatic dump functionality is reportedly working fine.
The current status is that the truck is being stored inside Zion Fire Station 2.
