The current standard for safety standards for electrical equipment and systems in the machine tool industry is the IEC 60204-1:2005 standard, which corresponds to GB5226.1-2008 in the country. This standard is the core standard for electronic control equipment in the export product safety certification of machine tools.

The promotion of the Chinese right to speak for various reasons, the development of electrical related standards in the machine tool industry was dominated by developed countries in Europe and America. Nowadays, the IEC 60204-3X standard proposal is successfully established in the IEC, which reverses the passive situation in the international standardization of the machine tool in China and is of great significance for improving the international competitiveness of China's machine tool industry.

“At the same time, the standards for machine tool electrical equipment and control systems are important standards that are closely related to the safety of first-line operators. The electrical standards used in the industry are not very operative. It is not easy for China to develop the first international standard for machine tools.

At the 2009 annual meeting of the IEC/TC44 Technical Committee held in Beijing in September 2009, China presented and reported on the new work project proposal to the General Assembly for the first time. It received positive response and recognition, and instructed IEC/TC44/MT60204-1 to seriously consider China’s new standard suggests that this incident marks the official start of China’s first international standards journey.

In March 2010, SAC/TC 231 established the “International Standard Project Working Group”. The lead unit of the working group is the Beijing Machine Tool Research Institute affiliated to the SAC/TC231 Secretariat. With the establishment of the project team, the proposal work also entered a substantive technical preparation stage.

Later, although China's draft standard was successfully released, it has caused fierce debates on whether it is developed into an independent international standard, and its international standardization road was once ran aground. At the end of June 2011, SAC/TC231 formally submitted proposal documents to the National Standards Committee.

In July 2011, SAC submitted formal IEC 60204-3X joint proposal documents to IEC. The IEC Central Office distributed the votes to the National Committees and finally passed it on January 20, 2012.

Zhao Qinzhi reviewed and reviewed the efforts made by various agencies in these years and told the reporter of the “Mechatronics Daily”: “The result of the formal approval of the IEC60204-3X standard proposal is indeed not easy to come by, but this is only a start. The level of revision of international standards urgently needs to be improved. At present, there are 2,099 national and industrial standards in the machine tool industry, but there are many standards that are slow to update, standards are low, and the standard revision and technology innovation, industrial development out of line, can not meet the needs of product development, manufacturing, services and trade . There is still a gap in the ability to substantively participate in international standardization work, and the level of revision of international standards is still not high.
