Autodesk Accelerates the Future of Digital and Physical 3D Creation with Microsoft
Public Company Information: NASDAQ:ADSK  SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Build Conference — At the Build Conference, Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) announced two major initiatives aimed at transforming how people design and create in both digital and physical spaces. The company is collaborating with Microsoft to integrate its 3D printing platform directly into Windows 10 and is also working to make its 3D modeling software compatible with Microsoft’s HoloLens mixed reality system. The first project involves embedding Autodesk’s Spark 3D printing platform into Windows 10. This integration will allow users to access a more streamlined and reliable 3D printing experience, supporting a wide range of software, materials, and printers. To further support the growth of the 3D printing industry, Autodesk will provide free access to the Spark APIs for Microsoft developers. Additionally, Autodesk has joined Microsoft as a founding member of the 3D Manufacturing Format (3MF) Consortium, helping to develop a universal standard for 3D file interchange and printing. “We are reaching a turning point in 3D printing,†said Steve Guggenheimer, Corporate Vice President of Developer Platform & Evangelism at Microsoft. “With Spark integrated into Windows 10, we’re giving developers the tools they need to confidently enter the world of additive manufacturing.†The second initiative focuses on bringing 3D models from Autodesk software like Maya or Fusion 360 into the mixed reality environment of HoloLens. This allows designers, engineers, and creators to visualize full-scale models during the early stages of product development, reducing the need for physical prototypes and saving time and costs. For game developers and filmmakers, this could open up new possibilities for immersive storytelling and interactive experiences. In the future, users could design their ideas using Autodesk’s Fusion 360, view them in 3D through HoloLens, and then prepare them for printing on Spark-compatible devices—all within a seamless workflow. “3D printing holds a lot of promise, but it's still complicated and unreliable,†said Samir Hanna, Vice President and General Manager of Consumer and 3D Printing at Autodesk. “By working with Microsoft, we're taking a big step toward making 3D printing more accessible and user-friendly for everyone.†About Autodesk Autodesk empowers people to imagine, design, and create a better world.
