This is the first in a series of updates covering the massive fire that broke out in Cicero on Tuesday night. The blaze started at 1829 54th Avenue and quickly spread to 1843 54th Avenue. Within less than an hour, the incident was escalated to four alarms, prompting a special call for assistance from Chicago and a task force from MABAS Division 20. Firefighters worked tirelessly through the night to bring the flames under control.
Here are some initial images captured by Eric Haak. More photos from Tim Olk, Jeff Rudolph, and Larry Shapiro will follow soon—so stay tuned.
Eric shared this insight about the photos:
> "The first image is the very first one I took. Shots 4 and 5 show heavy fire conditions blowing out the sector 4 side of the building about 10 minutes after the first photo. Pictures 6, 7, and 8 feature Oak Park’s ladder truck working the sector 2/3 corner. Picture 3 shows the Cicero Engine 1 using its deck gun, which they only did for a short time."
These images give a powerful visual of the intensity of the fire and the coordinated response from multiple departments. Stay with us as we continue to update you with more details and photos from the scene.
