Large-scale sulfuric acid production plant in China has basically achieved localization

China has become the world's largest producer of sulfuric acid, and during the "Tenth Five-Year Plan" period, significant progress was made in the large-scale production and domestication of sulfuric acid manufacturing facilities. Large and medium-sized acid plants have largely achieved self-sufficiency in equipment, leading to a substantial reduction in investment costs. According to information shared at the National Sulfuric Acid Industry Conference held in Guiyang, China surpassed the United States in sulfuric acid production for the first time in 2003, maintaining the top position globally for three consecutive years. By the end of 2005, China had established a sulfuric acid production capacity of 55.5 million tons annually, meeting the needs of various industries such as fertilizers, chemicals, light manufacturing, steel, and textiles. Lv Qingsheng, president of the China Sulfuric Acid Industry Association, highlighted that China has developed multiple production methods, including sulfuric acid from pyrite, sulfur, and flue gas from smelting processes. Currently, China operates pyrite-based acid plants with annual outputs ranging from 20,000 to 400,000 tons, sulfuric acid plants producing between 600,000 to 1 million tons per year, and non-ferrous metal smelting acid plants with outputs between 20,000 to 1 million tons annually. These facilities have largely achieved localization, with large-scale sulfuric acid production technology now approaching the standards of developed countries. This advancement has significantly reduced equipment investment and enhanced market competitiveness. Moreover, the industry has seen continuous improvements in efficiency, sustainability, and technological innovation, further solidifying China's position as a global leader in sulfuric acid production.
