Luoyang Bearing launches domestic high-speed finishing mill bearing
The high-speed finishing mill bearings developed by Luoyang Bearing Group Railway Passenger Car Bearing Co., Ltd. (commonly known as Luozhou Iron Passenger Co., Ltd.) and Shougang Co., Ltd.'s Third Wire Factory have successfully passed the technical appraisal organized by the High-line Small Mill Equipment Technical Committee in China. Experts have praised the bearings, stating that their technical level and quality are comparable to the best in the world. This achievement marks China as the third country globally capable of producing high-performance high-speed finishing mill bearings, a significant milestone in the nation's industrial development.
High-speed wire rod mills are advanced, integrated systems combining machinery, electricity, hydraulics, and instrumentation. These systems play a crucial role in the production of high-quality wire products, supporting structural adjustments in the steel industry and contributing to national economic growth. For many years, China lacked this critical technology. The first high-speed wire rod mill was introduced in 1986, and by 1996, the number of such mills had grown to 38 lines, significantly boosting wire production capacity. By 1995, the output of high-speed rolling mills reached 5.57 million tons, accounting for 33% of the country’s wire production. Over time, demand increased, and by 2000, high-speed rolling mills produced over 53% of the national wire output, surpassing half for the first time. Their contribution to overall steel production also rose to more than 13%.
Recognizing the importance of this technology, the Chinese government has prioritized research and development in high-speed rolling mill equipment, aiming to achieve localization of spare parts. This effort ensures smooth production and maximizes the efficiency of existing facilities. As a result, China has developed modern high-speed wire rod mills and even exported precision components like finishing rolls and lay machines to countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
High-speed finishing mill bearings are essential to the entire production process. Due to the high speeds and heavy loads involved, these bearings must be of exceptional quality and durability. For many years, China relied on imported bearings, which required substantial foreign exchange. To break this dependency, Luozhou Iron Passenger Co., Ltd. and Shougang No. 3 Wire Factory began collaborating in May 1999 to develop high-strength finishing mill bearings. Luozhou Iron Passenger, recognized as a high-tech enterprise by the Henan Science and Technology Commission, passed ISO9002 certification in 1998 and possesses strong technical capabilities. After more than six months of testing, the bearings successfully rolled over 400,000 tons of wire with stable performance. Experts have noted that the design is advanced, the manufacturing process is efficient, and the testing equipment is state-of-the-art. This marks the first domestically produced high-line finishing mill bearing in China, a major breakthrough in the industry.
